Carol G. Northway, CMT, FAAMT began as a medical secretary at Mayo Clinic in 1976, where she worked in the Gastroenterology Department for over 9 years. Working for a very meticulous and strict supervisor taught her skills and perfection that have contributed to her reputation for quality she still has today.
In 1986 Carol left Mayo Clinic and moved to the Chicago area because of her husband’s job change. It was there that she began a medical transcription service and within a few months had grown to a large staff of personally trained transcriptionists and was providing service for several doctors’ offices, clinics, and hospitals. She became a member of the American Association for Medical Transcription in 1989, and in 1990 became a Certified Medical Transcriptionist, a title which she continues to hold.
Another change found Carol moving to Cobb County, Georgia in 1992, where Cobb Medical Transcription began. Because of her personal attention to each individual client and her reputation for dependability and quality, it wasn’t very long before she had several accounts and began once again to build a team of reliable independent transcriptionists. It was during that time that she was also independently employed as a transcriptionist and account supervisor for a local transcription service. That service was subsequently purchased by a national transcription company, and she found that working for them was not as rewarding as running her own business and did not allow her the time she needed to devote to Cobb Medical Transcription. Therefore, she left that company in 1995 so she could totally focus on her own business. The Atlanta Chapter of the American Association for Medical Transcription elected her as their President-Elect in 1993 and their President in 1994. She also served as President of the Georgia/Alabama Association for Medical Transcription in 2002 and 2006. In March 2004 Carol also earned the designation of AAMT Fellow.
Carol is extremely proud of her staff of medical language specialists. Their devotion to their profession is evidenced by their commitment, reliability, and quality of work they do. They all enjoy the challenges brought to them each day and thirst for the chance to experience and learn even more.
